| Gilbert's Martial Arts Academy, GMA, is a family oriented Martial Arts Academy in Shermans Dale for all ages and all sexes. We don't shout and we dont' punish the students. Here we lead by example. One of our trademarks is, that you learn from the more experienced and the higher ranked Martial Artists. This does not always mean, that only Stephanie Gilbert, a 2-time World Champion is leading a class on or instructing. For years we have a very successful concept going by giving higher ranked students a chance to pass on what they know every once in a while. Through doing this a very ancient tradition is passed along also, where the Martial Arts in Asia wasn't only taught from the father to the son, or from a master to a student, but when necessity arose also from other knowledgeable people, who were not masters yet. By doing this all students automatically study to the best of their ability, because a lower ranked student might be put into their care at any time for a class or two and nobody wants to appear as to know nothing. So everybody automatically strives for best knowledge all the time. Another benefit this brings is, that the monthly fee for each student is the lowest in the area. The student number at GMA is very low per class and at times only one at a time. So the entire attention will be focused mostly on you. If you look at the schedule, this might be very misleading to new customers. It makes you think, you are one amoung 30 people or so and might be the center of attention, if you make a mistake. This is not at all the case. This schedule is just a suggestion from Stephanie, the owner and head instructor, for you to make a decision on your class times. If you had other times in mind and there is no other student scheduled, feel free to propose whatever time you feel is right for you. We will try and work with your times. The Academy was founded end of July 2006. We are located in Lupfer's Grove, Shermans Dale. We offer Kickboxing, Karate, Ju Jutsu, Capoeira, and our latest classes are in MMA. Even though we offer classes for every age and specialize in young children, the MMA classes are only available for students 18 years or older. If you would like to enroll your child, please feel free to choose one of the other Martial Arts. Completely private classes and personal training are also available to all those super athletes out there or for weight loss. Please, go to "personal training". Even though we have winter now, don't forget about the summer camps. Summer will be here before you know it and if you don't reserve your spot now, all our camp spots will be gone. Join our "Hot Summer Sun, Cool Ninja Fun" camps in 2010 and reserve your spot now. Until December 31st we have 15% off all camps. For more info go to "summer camps". The students of GMA are all very friendly, who help each other and push each other to the limit. The level here is very high. Competition is available at a local as well as an international level, however not required to progress. GMA has three different demo teams. Those teams are all free to the community and at no cost, however not everyone can be in the demo team. Demo team members need to be very dedicated and available for most of our shows and demos. First, there's our "Team NaSte" school demo team, which competes and performs at tournaments and at local fairs and shows to advertise for the school and show our expertise. Then there is the group "Triple F", which stands for "Fighters for Faith". This is for all the Christian's that would like to devote their skills to honor Jesus. This group opens in November. The third group is our "Teen Fusion". Hip Hop and Martial Arts will be combined in this group in a positive way. No swearing, violence, and drugs allowed. If you are a teenager, and you feel lost and don't know, what exactly to do with your free time, this might just be something for you. Be proud of the skills you learn and have some fun. Once you outgrow the teen years, you can still stay as a group leader to the newbies. So you "lead" on the next generation. Regular trips to amusement parks, bowling alleys, skating rinks, swimming pools, the movies or similar will also be held in this group. If you always wanted to do Martial Arts, here's your chance, and it's right in front of your door. No trips over the mountain, no unnecessary gas, no wasted time. If you never come in, you will never know, if you would have excelled at a sport, that's just for you, taught by a 2-time World Champion. Who knows,... YOU might just be the next World Champion?!?
